As Flow Would Have It: What is Flow?

In psychology, Flow describes moments of complete mental immersion in an activity. Those moments when you lose track of time and feel like you have found an infinite vortex. Often these moments bring about our biggest breakthroughs, our strongest performances, or the most peaceful moments in our lives.

But what if, instead of reserving flow for a very select few activities and moments, we lived life in a state of flow? What if we became so immersed in our lives, so tuned in to the present moment, that our lives became the vortex?

For me, Flow is a mix of the psychological definition and the phrase ‘go with the flow’.

Flow means listening to your intuition, your inner voice, and doing whatever it says. Leaning into the metaphysical life, knowing that your path, your soul destiny, cannot be found by thinking or mental effort.

We all have a soul path, a destiny, or a soul contract. Each one of us chose this lifetime to fulfill a specific purpose, something that is beyond the scope of the mind. Our minds love to nit-pick, to question, and to plan. But the soul, or your inner voice, does not need to plan, to scrutinize, or obsess.

Your inner voice knows exactly what to do next: it is the source of all the infinite and divine wisdom that you hold within you. But so often we refuse to tap into this treasure chest. Our minds want things to be hard, to be planned, to be just so.

The mind is limited in its vision and stunted in its execution.

We can get results by planning, obsessing, and worrying. In fact, most people do. But what if we lived life not in accordance with our minds, but with our hearts and inner voices?

What if we took the time to ask our souls, what should I do next? Often that answer is completely different than the answer that comes from our mind. But listening to that answer, and following it full steam, leads to a state of living life in flow.

When we dedicate ourselves to living in tune with the universe, magical things can happen. We put ourselves into a mental box, but what would happen if we stepped outside of it?

Flow happens when we dedicate ourselves to aligning our vibrations, thoughts, and actions with the desires of our souls. From this state we can observe the seemingly magical moments that follow, allowing whatever happens to happen fully. Listening to the urge to turn down that street, go to the store now instead of later, or to read for a while instead of doing our work.

This state of life means being true to your inner self.

True to who you came here to be, and true to the energetic and divine being that you are. To fully acknowledge that you are a spiritual being having a human experience.

Flow means less efforting, fewer thoughts, and no obsessing. Living in flow means taking the leap into the unknown, turning inward to your soul, and allowing your mind to take a backseat.

Trusting that your work will get done when it needs to and opening yourself up to the synchronicities that life has to offer.

Living in flow means living a life of magic, tuned in to the vibration of your soul, and dedicated to the discovery of your soul calling.
